 note = {JGSS は、General Social Survey (GSS)に範を取り、国際比較を視野に入れているが、日本社会と人々の意識や行動の実態を把握することに主眼をおいている。調査対象者の世帯構成、就業や生計の状況、両親や配偶者の職業、対象者の政治意識、家族観、人生観、死生観、宗教、余暇活動、犯罪被害など広範囲の調査事項を網羅し、さまざまな問題関心から分析ができる調査データの構築を目指している。

JGSS-2009LCSは、面接調査と留置調査を併用し、対象者を28歳から42 歳に絞って、現在の意識と行動に加えて、中学卒業後から現在にいたる学校歴、職業経歴、ならびに家族形成について詳細に尋ねている。JGSS-2009LCSには、対象者の属性に関する設問（対象者の学歴、収入、就労状況、過去の就労経験、婚姻上の地位、世帯構成、世帯収入、兄弟姉妹の数、子どもの数、子どもの性別や年齢、15 歳の頃の居住地、ライフヒストリー：中学校卒業後にこれまでに通った学校歴、学生時代の一時的なアルバイトを除くすべての職歴、無職期間、結婚歴、実親・義親との同居歴、人生でつらかった時期とよかった時期など）、調査対象者の意識や行動に関する設問（生活習慣、余暇活動、情報機器の利用、健康、現職の状態、学校・職場で得た能力、今後高めたい能力、理想の時間配分、人生設計、家族・ジェンダー、社会階層、政治や政府に対する意識、自己評価、幸福感・満足感など）が含まれている。

JGSS-2009LCSのデータセットは、以下のデータ・アーカイブで公開している。
  日本：JGSSDDS (https://jgssdds.repo.nii.ac.jp), The Japanese General Social Surveys (JGSS) Project is a Japanese version of the General Social Survey (GSS) project closely replicating the original GSS of the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. It provides data for analyses of Japanese society, attitudes, and behaviors, which makes possible international comparisons. 

JGSS-2009LCS includes two components, a face to face interview and a self-administered questionnaire. The target sample is those who are age between 24 and 42, and they were asked about details on their education, employment history and transitions in marital status. In JGSS-2009LCS, respondents were also asked about their demographic and background information (education, employment, employment history,  income, income source, marital status, number and age of children, number of siblings, family and household composition, household income, and life history) as well as their attitudes and behaviors (habitual behaviors, leisure, ICT use, health, skills, views on family, gender and politics, social class, happiness and life satisfaction).
